Hands On Winter Sowing Event
Chris Kosin's Home, Pittsburgh, PA
Public Welcome Free Event Hands-On/How-To Workshop Public Restroom Free Public Parking Lots of Physical Activity
Wild Ones board member and the owner of GaiaScape Landscape, Chris Kosin will be holding this winter sowing event!
Learn how to winter sow perennial seeds, specifically focusing on native species.
This can be as easy as using an old milk jug or getting specific starting trays for this technique.
Chris will show you a few ways to have the best success at sowing seeds with minimal fuss and maximum germination.
This is a great way to save money and have plants to share. Our chapter will be doing this technique for many of our native plants for our sale in 2026.
Things to know about this event:
-The demonstration will occur outside in a sloped yard with indoor basement options if weather is not cooperative.
-Dress accordingly. Please bring any seeds you would like to sow, we will provide enough soil for a few pots for everyone to take home.
-Bring garden gloves if you use them.
-Bringing a container you would like to use is suggested, this will be something that will sit outside until the following spring. A gallon milk jug is the most common vessel but 3 inch pots are also appropriate with some protection.
Registration is required so we can plan accordingly.
The address will be sent to all registrants a few days before the event.
